Peek-a-boo

By November 20, 2020No Comments

I see you, cowering in the corner. I see you doing it alone. I see you afraid to look within. I see you unwilling. I see you blaming others. I see you indulging.

I see you hiding behind the pumpkin man. I see you hiding behind the grandpa. I see your hope that they will save you.

I see what you don’t want to see.

Safe behind a mask, peek-a-boo.

I hear the quiver. I hear the stories. I hear your optimism. I hear it masking your fears.

I hear what you don’t want to hear.

Safe behind a mask, peek-a-boo.

I feel your pain. I feel your anger. I feel your loss. I feel your fear.

I feel what you don’t want to feel.

Afraid to be quiet long enough. Afraid to listen. Afraid to admit.

Safe behind a mask, peek-a-boo.

What lies within? Darkness? Light? What is that voice you are so afraid to hear when it’s quiet. Distracting keeps it at bay.

A curious and courageous few willing to see what lies beyond. It is not what you imagined. The opposite of fear. The opposite of anger. The opposite of alone.

I could console you and tell you it’s going to be alright. That’s a lie.

Peek-a-boo! Do you see now?
